Our Story  

The two largest industries in the world are food and energy and both need a makeover using more environmentally friendly and sustainable processes.  Our founder, Larry Dressler, grew up in the agriculture world providing refined vegetable oils to bakeries, restaurants and food product manufacturers.  In 2010, Larry and his team built an innovative algae-to-energy test farm that had some success but as energy prices were declining Larry decided to make a pivot away from renewable fuel to proteins (human fuel).  In 2013, Larry started Agcore Technologies whose goal was to grow a high protein alga that could be used in human and animal nutrition.  Larry fell in love with Non-GMO Spirulina, a blue-green alga that many professionals feel is the healthiest food known to man; but experts said it could never be grown in the New England climate.  The Agcore Team took on the challenge to develop a sustainable, environmentally friendly, low energy technology and process.  Agcore succeeded in creating a year-round crop whereas other Spirulina growers located closer to the equator have to shut down during the hot summer months.  Next, Agcore needed a brand that accurately defined our product and our mission and SunFresh Proteins was born.  Our Spirulina is grown in greenhouses that use the “Sun” for photosynthesis; no artificial lightning is used.  Our product is harvested daily, dried at low temperatures, packaged and shipped to customers providing a very “Fresh” product.  A considerable amount of the Spirulina currently being sold in the US was produced oversees (China, India) where it is stored and shipped over long periods of time using environmentally unfriendly grow and shipping methods.  Lastly, the term “Proteins” was used to highlight our goal of supplying a sustainable plant based protein that is superior in nourishing our bodies.  The SunFresh Proteins Team thanks you for your interest and hopes to be a part of your “Happy Healthy Lifestyle.”
